Sadly, what remains of Lennox Castle, seen in many of my local shots, was destroyed in a fire tonight.
Lennox Castle was built between 1837-41 for John Lennox Kincaid by the architect David Hamilton, who also designed the nearby Campsie High Church. The castle, sitting at the edge of the forest, overlooks the village of Lennoxtown and the Campsie Fells to the north.
The grounds surrounding Lennox Castle were developed from 1927 and used, untill recently, as a psychiatric hospital. The hospital buildings have now been demolished to make way for Celtic football club's new training ground and a new housing development.
The Castle itself has fallen into a state of disrepair through neglect and vandalism, although it still dominates the skyline as you look towards the western end of Lennox Forest.
